Tragic Plane Crash Claims Lives Of Six Thai Officers During Parachute Training

Six Thai police officers were killed in a tragic accident when a small plane crashed into the sea while conducting a parachute training exercise on Friday, April 25. The incident happened around 8 a.m. local time off the coast of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, some distance south of Bangkok.

Five of the officers on board the plane were declared dead at the scene, while the sixth officer died later from injuries in a hospital, said police spokesperson Archayon Kraithong. Authorities are investigating the crash and reviewing the black box data recorder on the plane to find out what caused it.

The crash happened around 100 meters off the beach in Cha-am district, a holiday resort region some 130 kilometers southwest of the Thai capital. A social media video caught the aircraft spinning out of control before going into the sea, with locals scrambling to the scene to help.

Thai Police Chief Kitrat Phanphet promised a complete investigation of the accident, and the Royal Thai Police sent its deepest condolences to the grieving families.”

The accident puts into the limelight the risks continually being assumed by law enforcers who take part in high-risk training operations.
