Discussions on Bilateral Relations and Regional Tensions
In addition to addressing counterterrorism efforts, Rudenko and Kumar also discussed current bilateral issues. They focused on the situation in South Asia, particularly the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. These tensions followed the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
The Pahalgam Attack: A Deadly Assault on Tourists
On April 22, terrorists launched a brutal attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Tragically, 26 people were killed, including one Nepalese national. The attack occurred near Baisaran Meadow, a popular tourist destination. This assault has become one of the deadliest in the region, following the 2019 Pulwama attack, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF jawans.
Visa Revocation and Increased Security Measures
In response to the attack, India took decisive action. On April 27, the Indian government revoked all visas for Pakistani citizens, except for long-term, diplomatic, and official visas. Furthermore, medical visas issued to Pakistani nationals will only remain valid until April 29.
Additionally, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a video conference with chief secretaries from all states. He instructed them to take necessary actions to ensure security and monitor any threats. This move is part of India’s new strategy to tighten border security and regulate the presence of Pakistani nationals.
Amit Shah’s Directive on Deportation
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held talks with state chief ministers. He directed them to identify Pakistani nationals currently residing in their territories. Furthermore, he ordered that these individuals be deported as soon as possible, in line with the government’s security measures.
