Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), New Delhi, recently published a book, National Security Challenges: Young Scholars’ Perspective. Edited by Col Ramandeep Singh Sandhu and Dr Manjari Singh, the book was released by Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen M.M. Naravane.

The authors in the book are university students ranging from undergraduate level to doctoral candidates who have written on varied themes concerning national security. National Security Challenges is a tribute to Field Marshal Manekshaw, the great grand strategist of 1971 India-Pakistan war that resulted in the liberation of Bangladesh.

CLAWS has taken this unprecedented initiative to inculcate strategic thinking and strategic studies amongst the youth by organising its flagship event, a pan-India level essay competition in 2018 and named it as Field Marshal Manekshaw Essay Competition (FMMEC) eventually in 2019. Award winners of 2019 FMMEC were felicitated by the COAS during the Indian Army-CLAWS International Seminar “Pragyan Conclave”.

The book is a compilation 2018-2019 FMMEC award winning and few select essays which are divided into three themes, namely, conceptual understandings and facets of India’s national security; technological evolution, cyber threats and security and national, regional and global experiences. The Indian Army and CLAWS has decided that a complimentary copy of the book be sent to all the universities (central, state, private, deemed-to be) along with all the IITs, IIMs, NLUs and Business Schools.

To boost the morale of the students and the young authors, the book carries messages from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Gen Naravane.
