A Kabaddi player was publicly murdered in Patiala, Punjab. The deceased was identified as Dharmendra Singh, a resident of Dhaunkalan village. Dharmendra Singh was the head of his kabaddi club and his club used to organize kabaddi tournaments every year. Apart from doing farming, Dharmendra Singh also used to run a gym. He was gunned down near the petrol pump behind Punjabi University at 10.30 pm on Tuesday night. The video related to the incident is going viral on social media. This is the second Kabaddi player after Sandeep Nangal Ambia who has been shot dead by gangsters.

It is being told that Dharmendra was having a rivalry with some boys. On Tuesday night, the same youth, allegedly, came on motorcycles and fled after shooting Dharmendra near a petrol pump. Dharmendra died on the spot. People standing in a building adjacent to the street made a video of this whole incident. In the video, along with the sound of gunshots, the youths who shot Dharmendra are seen running in the street.

As per Punjab Police records, there have been more than 20 murders in the last 20 days including two International Kabaddi players.

“Politics on the murder of Kabaddi clubhead,” Navjot Singh Sidhu tweeted and sought resignation from CM, said sarcastically, “Himachal elections are more important, deaths in Punjab.”

It is being said that the boys who shot the bullets are associated with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang. However, the police have not yet confirmed this. Nor has the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the incident. On the other hand, as soon as the information about the incident was received, the police reached the spot and took the body into possession, and sent it for post-mortem. Based on the video of the incident, a case has been registered and an investigation is going on. Dharmendra’s brother has lodged a complaint of murder but he says that his brother had no quarrel or rivalry with anyone.

Patiala SP City Harpal Singh said that 4 people have been rounded up in connection with this incident.

The case is being investigated from every angle. The accused will be arrested soon, police said.
