ANOTHER FEATHER IN SABYASACHI’S CUP

In the age of digital visual content, it is more impactful to see two entities coming together. It amplifies the brand value of each. Collaborations are creative propositions which when executed with detail and diligence benefit both brands.

There is no arguing Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s propensity to narrating stories through visuals. The mastermind behind his stupendous brand that creates decadent couture coveted by Indian and global audiences. People abreast with the business of fashion are aware of his indomitable brand portfolio not only as a couturier but also an entrepreneur. Sabyasachi has had successful collaborations with H&M, Pottery Barn (an American home and interior chain) and Christian Louboutin the latest feather in Sabyasachi’s cup is the iconic coffee brand Starbucks (India).

The Seattle founded Coffee company has liaised with the likes of Kate Spade, Rodarte and Alice + Olivia previously and now with Sabyasachi.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s refreshing collection of mugs is set to be the pride in the coffee (or coffee mug) connoisseur’s collection. This charming drinkware made of ceramic displays classic Sabyasachi prints in congruence with the designer’s aesthetic.

This is just another feather in the cap of the maverick who has doled out a roaring successful collaboration with H & M (the Swedish clothing conglomerate).

In the age of digital visual content, it is more impactful to see two entities coming together. It amplifies the brand value of each. Collaborations are creative propositions which when executed with detail and diligence benefit both brands. It also has to speak a language common to both entities.

I remember when Sabya last collaborated with H&M it created a stir across the fashion fraternity. Envision mile long queues in malls and racks being robbed off limited edition Sabya merchandise, yes it happened. I remember a friend ranting about how she was refreshing the H&M website at the midnight launch only to discover almost everything was sold out a few minutes later. That is the powerhouse of brand Sabyasachi.

While the H&M collaboration earned admiration and critique, the Sabyasachi X Starbucks collaboration is another instance that has led to memes and trolls brewing. Coffee consumers are making tongue-in-cheek quips about will they be serving designer coffee in the printed mugs? or why does unaffordable coffee need to be made more unaffordable? All said and done there is no escaping the influence of Sabyasachi.

The limited-edition collection only for India will be priced from Rs.1,600 to Rs. 2,500 and be available at all Starbucks stores. The drinkware will be available April 12th, 2022 onwards.
