Residents of Vadluru village, the ancestral home of Usha Vance, wife of U.S. Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance, took to the streets in celebration as news broke of Donald Trump surpassing the 270 electoral vote threshold in the U.S. elections. The village, situated in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district, is where Usha’s family has its roots.

As word of the election result spread, villagers lit fireworks and cheered, marking the occasion with excitement and pride. Usha Vance, an Indian-American lawyer, is now set to become the first Indian-American Second Lady of the United States in January. The celebration in Vadluru village reflects the pride felt by the Indian-American community, especially those of Telugu heritage, in seeing one of their own in such a prominent role. JD Vance, Usha’s husband, ran on the same ticket as Donald Trump in the U.S. election.

On Tuesday, villagers in Vadluru offered special prayers for JD Vance’s success. Ramana, a local resident, expressed the community’s hopes: “We hope that Trump will win the election. America is countering terrorism across the world. The relations between America and India will improve if Trump becomes the President. There is a big fight between the two (Trump and Kamala Harris). We feel generally proud that (Usha) Vance is a native of Vadluru. We feel proud (about it). They donated the land long ago, but her (Vance’s) relatives are here.”

Earlier that day, JD Vance cast his ballot in person for the U.S. Presidential Elections at the St. Anthony of Padua Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, as reported by CNN. Reflecting on his vote, Vance said, “I felt good about my own race a couple of years ago when I voted in this exact same spot. Hopefully, it goes as well for President Trump and me as it went for me a couple of years ago in the state of Ohio.”
