Massive protests broke out at SR Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district on Thursday, following the discovery of a hidden camera in a girls’ hostel washroom.

Students rallied, chanting “we want justice,” and demanded action from the authorities to ensure their safety. The police identified the accused as Vijay, a student of the college. They seized his laptop and found nearly 300 obscene videos, which they believe he sold to other students. There are no details yet on whether Vijay has been arrested.

The incident comes amid national outrage over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. In response to the protests, the Telugu Desam Party stated that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has initiated an inquiry.

“The Chief Minister has ordered an investigation into the concerns raised by students about hidden cameras in the hostel. The District Collector and SP have been instructed to visit the site immediately along with District Minister, Kollu Ravindra,” a party post said.

Nara Lokesh, the Chief Minister’s son, also addressed the situation on X, stating, “I have requested details regarding the protests by female students at Gudlavalleru Engineering College. An inquiry into the hidden camera allegations has been ordered.” He added that strict action would be taken against any culprits and urged for prompt action to prevent such incidents in colleges.
