Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar said the SEC has consulted all the political parties about conducting Panchayat Raj elections. He stated that there are no constitutional hurdles in conducting the elections. EC further noted that the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the state has improved with a drastic drop in daily caseload from more than 10,000 to 753. Kumar further said that the Telangana government is holding GHMC elections and that holding elections is a constitutional obligation.
Ramesh Kumar noted that the elections are necessary for getting central funds. He said the State Election Commission was in regular touch with the health ministry and health department to take stock of the current pandemic. He assured that the election to the local bodies will be held in the fairest and free manner.
On 17 March, the Supreme Court upheld the SEC decision to postpone local body elections in the state but lifted the Model Code of Conduct.
The State Election Commission (SEC) had postponed the election process of MPTC/ZPTC and urban local bodies citing the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic. In a tearing hurry, the Jaganmohan Reddy government promulgated the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 to reduce the term of SEC to three years from five years. The Andhra Pradesh government had earlier removed Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar as SEC. But the Andhra HC directed the state government to reinstate him as the state Election Commissioner.

Amit Shah assures Puducherry of reducing UT’s unemployment
Puducherry [India], February 28 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday assured people of Puducherry of reducing the unemployment rate in the Union Territory to less than 40 per cent if National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is voted to power in the upcoming assembly elections.
“About 75 per cent of Puducherry youth are unemployed, if you vote NDA government, we will reduce the unemployment rate to less than 40 per cent,” Shah said while addressing an election rally in Puducherry
Shah also cornered the erstwhile Congress government in Puducherry saying it did “petty politics” on implementing Central government schemes.
He lambasted at Narayanasamy’s government and alleged that the chief minister was engaged in rampant corruption in Puducherry. “At least 15,000 crore was sent by the Central government for the development of the Union Territory.”
“The Modi government has given a budget of 20 thousand crore rupees to overcome the shortcomings of the important infrastructure of fisheries,” Amit Shah said adding that Puducherry is going to get the most benefit from it.
“Has this money reached your villages?” he questioned the crowd.
He also alleged that Narayanasamy’s government sent 15,000 crore rupees to the Gandhi family’s service in Delhi.
Raising the issue of local body elections, he said, “For 14 years, the elections were not held here even after the High Court orders. Because they feared that the BJP’s lotus would blossom here if elections were held.”
The central government of PM Narendra Modi has done a lot of work for the development of Puducherry, he said. Puducherry has been connected to Bengaluru and Hyderabad as part of the UDAN scheme to promote tourism inside Puducherry, he added.
“Some days back PM Modi has opened a huge opportunity for the development of the people living on the seashore by performing Bhoomi Pujan of a small port,” he said adding that this port was closed since 2009, which is now starting very soon.
“You should help form the NDA government and I want to assure the people of Puducherry that when it will be 75 years of independence (in 2022), the BJP government will do the work of providing pure drinking water from the tap to every poor house here,” he said.
Regarding the BJP’s plan for Puducherry, Amit Shah said, “the Prime Minister has spoken about making Puducherry the BEST. The four words of B- Business Hub E-Education Hub S- Spiritual Hub T- Tourism Hub- BEST are the foundation of Puducherry’s development.”
Based on this, the BJP government will make Puducherry the jewel of the country, he promised to the public ahead of assembly elections here.
While ending his speech, Shah made an apology to people for not speaking in the Tamil language.
“The Prime Minister said that even when he was Chief Minister, he could not learn Tamil, he is Prime Minister now, yet he said that I want to learn Tamil and talk to Tamil brothers in the Tamil language,” Shah added.
Polling for 30 assembly seats in Puducherry will be held on April 6. Of the 30 Assembly seats, five are reserved for the Scheduled Caste candidates. As many as 10,02,589 electors will choose the candidates for the 15 legislative Assembly of Puducherry. (ANI)

Attack on Krishna Dhaba proof of ongoing attempts to oust ‘minorities’ from J-K: BJP leader
Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], February 28 (ANI): Expressing grief over Krishna Dhaba owner’s son Akash Mehra’s death, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kavinder Gupta on Sunday said the ‘targetted’ attack is proof that there are still ongoing attempts to oust the ‘minorities’ from the region.
“We heard the sad news about the death of Krishna Dhaba’s owner’s son. This type of targeted attack is proof that there are still ongoing attempts to oust the minorities from the region. Because the situation is improving in Jammu and Kashmir, some terrorist organisations are actively trying to create panic in the region,” said Gupta.
“We will not tolerate such activities otherwise the situation of 1989-1990 will be repeated. It is very important to stop such attacks,’ he added.
The BJP leader further commented that the Indian security forces are doing commendable work to stop terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, but added, “the attacks on Krishna Dhaba and Shakti sweets show there are efforts to bring back the ‘militancy in the region.”
The son of the owner of popular food joint Krishna Dhaba, who was injured in the terrorist attack on the eatery, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.
“Woke up to extremely distressing news. Young Akash Mehra who was shot at by terrorists at Krishna Dhaba has succumbed to his injuries at SMHS Hospital. I share the pain and grief of his family and stand by them as they mourn this inconsolable loss. May his soul rest in peace,” Junaid Azim Mattu, Mayor of Srinagar in a tweet.
On February 17, terrorists belonging to the ‘Muslim Jaanbaz Force’, an offshoot of proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba attacked Krishna Dhaba’ in Srinagar’s Durganag area when 24 foreign diplomats were visiting the union territory.
Two days later, Jammu and Kashmir police arrested three terrorists of ‘Muslim Jaanbaz Force’ in connection with the attack, which police said was aimed at terrorising non-locals living in the valley and disrupting tourist activity.
The arrested terrorists were identified as Suhail Ahmad Mir, resident of Dangerpora Nowgam, Owais Manzoor Sofi, resident of Dangarpora and Vilayat Aziz Mir, a resident of Hanipora Wampora Pulwama.
The police had said that the arrest of the trio and the recovery of weapon of crime (pistol) and grenade, along with other incriminating material including the bike used by them, within hours of attack is a big success for the Jammu and Kashmir police. (ANI)

Rahul Gandhi was on vacation when fisheries ministry was formed by NDA: Amit Shah
Puducherry [India], February 28 (ANI): After repeated gaffe by Rahul Gandhi on no dedicated ministry to deal with the issues of fishermen, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Congress leader was on vacation when the NDA formed the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying in 2019.
“Some days ago, Rahul Gandhi had asked why there is no fisheries department. I want to know from people whether they want a leader who doesn’t know that Department of Fisheries has been in existence for 2 years (since 2019),” Shah said at a public rally ahead of assembly elections in the Union Territory Puducherry’s Karaikal district.
Questioning the capability of the Congress party to govern the Puducherry, he said, “Can the Congress party do the welfare of Puducherry?
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had demanded the setting up of a separate ministry for fisheries at a meeting in Puducherry. The Wayanad MP’s comments came at an interaction with the fishing community in Kollam’s Thangassery on February 24.
“Just like our farmers farm the land, you farm the sea. Farmers have a Ministry in Delhi, you don’t. No one speaks for you in Delhi. The first thing I would do is to have a ministry dedicated to the fishermen of India so that your issues can be defended and protected,” said the Congress leader.
He made a similar gaffe in Puducherry earlier this month. In Puducherry, Gandhi had demanded the setting up of a separate ministry for fisheries.
However, the Congress leader’s comments came in for immediate rebuttal by Union Minister Giriraj Singh, who had also taken a swipe at Gandhi’s ignorance and attempt to “spread misinformation”.
Singh had said, “Rahul Gandhi is unaware that a separate ministry for fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying was formed by the Prime Minister in 2019, adding that Gandhi can’t come out of Italy.”(ANI)
