In Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu, an ammonia gas leak at a fish processing plant caused 29 female workers to collapse. The incident prompted immediate hospitalization for emergency care. A fire rescue officer, who responded to the crisis, also inhaled the toxic gas and was admitted to the hospital.
The leak reportedly resulted from an electrical short circuit, which compromised an ammonia storage container late last night. Initially, the workers exhibited symptoms such as breathing difficulties and coughing, which later escalated to fainting.
Authorities from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and forensic experts are currently investigating the incident on-site. The cause and extent of the leak are still being assessed.
Stay tuned for further updates as officials continue their investigation and work to enhance safety measures.
