With Karvachauth and Diwali approaching, markets in Ahmedabad have seen a surge in shopping since Sunday. Significant crowds were seen in various markets, with people on the shopping spree.

Markets witnessed a huge rush not only in the wall area of the city but also in the suburbs.

With only 12 days to go before the Diwali festival, the enthusiasm of the people for shopping has raised hopes among the business community that the clouds of recession will go away. Traders are following full guidelines such as social distancing. They are ready with the plan of social distancing for the next Sunday.

Crowds of people started flocking to the markets including Bhadra, Relief Road in the city area from the early morning. Crowd went bigger in the noon time in the elite market.

In this situation, the plans made by the police for social distance were found to be inadequate.

The crowd on the second Sunday before Diwali is expected to be huge despite coronavirus. The government and private companies will start paying bonuses for Diwali now. So it is hoped that people will come out in the markets for shopping. People were seen going for clothing, footwear and decoration items.

The online market is also offering innovative schemes for customers. The e-commerce websites are selling new varieties related to electronics, clothes for Diwali. People are also e-shopping in this festive season.

Most of the people who went shopping in the markets, especially in the suburbs of the city, were seen wearing masks. However, in the crowded shopping area of the city’s wall area, many citizens were still not wearing masks. Some of them say that masks had to be removed due to heat. Karanj police have made efforts to create awareness among the people to wear masks.
