All institutions must follow constitution: Jagdeep Dhankar

The Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankar, graced the first Justice Verma Memorial Lecture on Sunday as the Chief Guest. Addressing the event, Jagdeep Dhankar spoke about the importance of constitutional rights and duties. He said, “The adherence to constitutional prescriptions by all institutions is not optional,” adding, “If democracy has to function in proper order, then all the institutions are required to stay within the bounds of the constitution.”
He emphasised the importance of democracy and its effects on running a smooth society. He stated, “Democracy can nurture, blossom, and can impart healthy effects both socially and for the welfare of the people.”
Further, talking about the working process of the constitutional institutions—Legislative, Executive, and Judiciary—Dhankar said, “If constitutional institutions are in sync with each other, and their actions are within the limits set by the constitution, they can serve the larger public interest.” He appealed to all the constitutional institutions to take a fresh look and said, “I strongly urge and appeal that time has now come for a fresh look by all institutions; legislature, executive, and judiciary, and they confine themselves to the role prescribed to them by the constitution. This will be good for the country. “
