Few hours after the announcement of results of Haryana Assembly Election, all three independent MLAs have extended support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), boosting the party’s numbers in the state Assembly to 51.
The richest woman in India, Savitri Jindal, elected from Hisar, Rajesh Joon, MLA from Bahadurgarh, and Devender Kadyan, elected from Ganaur, extended their support to BJP after a meeting with Haryana election-in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan and other senior BJP leaders in Delhi.
Savitri was accompanied by her son and industrialist Naveen Jindal. However, she has not opened her cards yet as she is being considered as claimant of a berth in the Nayab Saini Cabinet. About her meeting, she shared on her account X, “Today, at my residence, I congratulated Haryana BJP in-charge Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, co-incharge Shri Biplab Deb, and Shri Surendra Nagar on their victory in the Assembly elections. During our meeting, we had a meaningful discussion on important issues related to the development of Haryana and Hisar. They assured that the Haryana government will remain continuously committed to the development of Hisar. In return, I also assured them of my support for the development of the state and Hisar.
Savitri has defeated Ram Niwas Rara of Congress by a margin of 18,941 votes, while BJP’s Kamal Gupta remained at third position.
Disgruntled BJP leader Devender Kadian has won from Ganaur Assembly Constituency. Kadian had hoped to secure the party’s ticket to contest from Ganaur, but the BJP chose Devender Kaushik, brother of former MP Ramesh Kaushik. Kadian decided to contest the election as an independent. In a highly emotional video released on September 10, Kadian announced his departure from the BJP, expressing disappointment over not being given a ticket.
Despite parting ways with the party, Kadian won by a significant margin of 35,209 votes, while BJP’s official candidate Kaushik came in third. Following his independent victory, Kadian has now returned to the BJP fold, strengthening the party’s hold in the assembly.
Similarly, Rajesh Joon contested as an independent after being denied a Congress ticket for the Bahadurgarh seat. Joon’s independent candidacy paid off, as he managed to defeat BJP’s Dinesh Kaushik by an impressive margin of 41,999 votes. His victory came as a blow to both the Congress and BJP in Bahadurgarh, but his decision to align with the BJP after the election further consolidated the ruling party’s position.
The 2024 Haryana Assembly election has been historic for the BJP. The party made a hat-trick by winning the assembly elections for the third consecutive time—an unprecedented feat in Haryana’s political history surpassing previous records with 48 seats.
