Domestic flight operations in India resumed from 25 May but the air travel is not the same as before due to the Covid-19 pandemic. After resumption of air travel, the daily footfall at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has reduced and people are now only travelling for important work and not for leisure by following new norms and guidelines.

Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said, “The purpose of travelling has changed drastically. Before the flight operations were suspended, on an average 50% of the flyers would travel for leisure and around 35% to visit family and the remaining 15% for work.”

“And now, as many as 50% of the passengers travelling to and from Delhi airport are those who were stranded, while the remaining, 35% are still travelling to visit family and 15% for work,” he added.

Jaipuriar said that they had made arrangements to change the air inside the terminal every 10 minutes. “The rotation is six times an hour. Because of this, the temperature inside the terminal may not be very comfortable, but it ensures safety,” he said. The airport has focused heavily on the sanitisation, social distancing and other safety measures.
