In recent months, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, has undergone notable enhancements. The most recent upgrade involves the installation of five additional parking stands at Terminal 2, augmenting both flight operations and aircraft parking capacity.
The expansion addresses the increasing demand for air travel in Ahmedabad. With the addition, the airport now features 18 parking stands, compared to the previous 13, catering to the needs of domestic and select international airlines with commonly utilized aircraft.
The new stands offer airlines opportunities to introduce additional connections to Ahmedabad. Furthermore, Terminal 2 is rapidly expanding with the installation of four new aerobridges, bringing the total to eight. To optimize stand usage, the airport has implemented the Multiple Aircraft Ramp System (MARS) on four existing aerobridges.
With these upgrades, Terminal 2 can now accommodate 18 Boeing 737/Airbus A320 aircraft, commonly used by domestic and some international carriers, as well as five wide-body aircraft such as Boeing 777/787 or Airbus A350, and cargo planes like the AN 124, B747-400, and Beluga, primarily operated by international airlines.
Terminal 2 is also prepared to handle Saudi Airlines’ B747-400 aircraft, which is a 450-seater aircraft designated for Hajj Operations. The expanded capacity not only boosts passenger traffic but also enhances operational efficiency for accommodating larger aircraft in the future. This development paves the way for international carriers to contemplate Ahmedabad for frequent technical halts in addition to regular passenger flights.
Moreover, Ahmedabad has inaugurated a new twice-weekly direct cargo flight operated by Ethiopian Airlines, establishing a connection between the city and Addis Ababa. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport maintains its dedication to continuous development and enhancements, aspiring to emerge as a premier aviation hub for western India.
