Assembly elections to be held in Rajasthan this year will most likely have far-reaching implications on the politics of neighbouring Haryana. In light of this, the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), the BJP’s ally in the state has been in constant motion to strengthen its party’s standing in Rajasthan. In Haryana, the main ruling BJP is facing a challenge from its partner JJP. Despite both having an alliance in Haryana, they have not seen eye-to-eye on several issues. However, new political speculations are surfacing as polls draw near.
JJP chief Dushyant Chautala—who serves as Deputy Chief Minister in Haryana—has been campaigning in Rajasthan in a bid to improve the party’s chances. The way the party is trying to increase its base in Rajasthan clearly depicts the growing ambitions of the party. The party’s student wing INSO is also very active in Rajasthan student politics. Notably, the BJP suffered a major setback in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka some months ago, adding to party’s challenges ahead of the polls. The election season has caused the BJP’s high command to formulate new political strategies in order to retain power in strong states and regain lost ground elsewhere.
