Senior AAP leader Prem Garg stressed the fundamental principle of upholding clean and honest politics within the framework of citizenship. He urged everyone to ensure that the public mandate received through voting is respected, and the position of Mayor is entrusted solely to the party freely chosen by the people.

Advocating for a commitment to this core policy to honour the democratic spirit, Garg stressed that only by doing so can the people of Chandigarh have a Mayor elected through a democratic process. Garg, a longstanding advocate for Chandigarh’s welfare, emphasized the importance of prioritizing public interests over party self-interest.
Furthermore, Garg proposed the implementation of a law wherein the Mayor is elected by a show of hands rather than a secret ballot, similar to the process in Parliament and State Assemblies.

He highlighted the need to eliminate horse trading and the use of money in mayoral elections, envisioning an end to such transactions. Garg suggested that implementing an anti-defection law within the Municipal Corporation would represent a meaningful step toward fostering clean and transparent politics.
