Ahead of the Punjab assembly elections on February 20, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with Punjab candidate Bhagwant Mann held an election campaign in Amritsar, Punjab, to boost the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Along with the roadshow, they also held a press conference during which CM Arvind Kejriwal claimed that Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi would lose both Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur constituencies.

As per the AAP party spokesperson Gurbhej Singh, the opposition party in the state was spreading misinformation against the party, however, sources claimed that the opposition party had damaged the image of the CM candidate by spreading numerous rumours. Therefore, the national convenor of AAP, Arvind Kejriwal, went to reduce the damage. Addressing a press conference in Amritsar, he said, “Channi is contesting election from two seats, Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur. We have conducted a survey thrice, Channi is losing badly from both seats.”

He also claimed that the party would get 52% of votes in Chamkaur and 48% of the vote in Bhadaur, while Punjab CM would get only 35% of votes in Chamkaur and 30% in Bhadaur. He also promised that if the CM candidate won the polls, he would also conduct a fair investigation on sand mining. Prior to this, on Saturday, Channi was given a clean chit following allegations of illegal mining in the Chamkaur Sahib Assembly constituency. Afterwards, receiving a clean chit, he labelled Kejriwal a “liar.” Calling AAP an outsider, he added that Kejriwal and his party members came to exploit and loot Punjab.

He said, “Arvind Kejriwal is a liar…he tried to accuse me of various things but none of them was true… They lodged a complaint with the Governor (against me), and he ordered an investigation. Truth prevails!”
