Delhi and Haryana have been at loggerheads over several issues with the new one developed after Aam Admi Party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the Haryana government of acute water shortage in Delhi.

Earlier, after visiting Wazirabad barrage, Delhi Cabinet Minister Satyendra Jain had said that the National Capital continues to witness water shortage because of Haryana. Yamuna river, the prime source of water for Delhiites, had dried up as the Haryana government was holding water and that led to a political ruckus between the states.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal said: “Delhi is being supplied its share of 1050

cusecs of water. The Delhi government is lying about water.”

The matter related to the water of Haryana and Delhi had reached the Supreme Court. The court had agreed that Delhi is being given its full share of water. Not only this, once the court had also said that Delhi is being given 250 cusecs extra water. The court had also imposed the condition of both barrages being filled, according to which water is being given.

The Upper Yamuna Board has also confirmed that Delhi is being given its full share of water.

AAP had succeeded in winning the recent Assembly election in Punjab and forming a government. Following this, Kejriwal is putting his best to establish his party in Haryana as well. Overwhelmed by the victory in Punjab, Kejriwal is leaving no stone unturned to strengthen the party in Haryana and holding Haryana responsible for the existing water shortage in Delhi is being believed a part of this.

In a bid to put the AAP on backfoot, the Haryana government continues to take on AAP saying that the AAP-led Punjab government is not giving Haryana its share of water. “The Chief Minister of Delhi should first get the water of Haryana’s share from Punjab.”

AAP Haryana in-charge Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Gupta said that the issue of water between Haryana and Delhi exists for a long time and it requires all stakeholders to have mutual consent to sort out the issue. “Both the states are required to conduct meetings. In case, AAP succeeds in forming a government in Haryana, the party will come up with every possible and required step to settle down the issue.
