The Tihar jail administration and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are in a fierce disagreement regarding the health of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. AAP leaders assert that Kejriwal’s health is deteriorating rapidly and he is losing weight in prison, suggesting a conspiracy against him.

In response, the Tihar jail administration has released a detailed update on Kejriwal’s health, refuting claims that he has lost 8.5 kg since entering prison. Records show Kejriwal weighed 65 kg when he arrived at Tihar Jail on April 1, 2024, and subsequently fluctuated between 65 kg and 66 kg in April.

After briefly leaving jail to campaign on April 9, he returned on June 2 weighing 63.5 kg, and by July 14, his weight had decreased to 61.5 kg, indicating a deliberate weight loss of 2 kg since his return from campaigning in June. Kejriwal has been declining food from home since June 3, 2024, following a similar dietary strategy he used during a previous jail term to manage his blood sugar levels.

The AIIMS medical board, overseen by Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal, closely monitors his health. Tihar Jail, under AAP administration, has criticized AAP Ministers and MPs for allegedly pressuring the prison administration with misleading claims and has formally raised concerns with the GNCTD Home Department under Kejriwal’s leadership.

Accusing AAP ministers and lawmakers of making unfounded allegations, the jail authorities condemned what they described as a narrative aimed at misleading the public and undermining the prison administration. They affirmed that Kejriwal’s blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight are regularly monitored, and he receives adequate treatment, including three home-cooked meals daily.

In response, AAP’s Sanjay Singh maintained that the jail report confirms Kejriwal’s weight loss and acknowledges fluctuations in his blood sugar levels, highlighting the potential health risks associated with low blood sugar levels.

AAP has expressed concern about Mr. Kejriwal’s health, stating that his family, the party, and supporters are worried. They allege that the BJP and the central government’s intention is to prolong his detention and endanger his life. They accuse them of conspiring to cause serious health problems for him.
