Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has slammed the Karnataka government and Bangalore Electricity Company (BESCOM) for allegedly fleecing common people in the name of additional security deposit (ASD)

Addressing the media, AAP on Tuesday alleged that the state government through Bangalore Electricity Company (BESCOM), is threatening citizens with disconnection if an additional security deposit (ASD) wasn’t paid. He also accused the state government of being involved in financial irregularities and corrupt practices.

“BESCOM has started issuing notices that electricity connections would be cut and a case would be filed against all those who do not pay the ASD along with their electricity bills, that too in such a difficult time of the pandemic. AAP will hold a protest rally against this anti-people move of the government,’’ alleged Prithvi Reddy, state convenor of AAP.

“There are arrears of over Rs 3,000 crore from various government departments to be paid to BESCOM. The government which is incapable of paying its dues to BESCOM has been trying to pressurize and loot the common man,” he further alleged.

He said that the government should immediately inform the public about how much electricity bill is due from various departments, influential people and elected politicians. “Aam Aadmi Party questions the Chief Minister as to how he has allowed the BESCOM to harass the common man when it was incapable of collecting dues worth crores from influential people,” Reddy said, adding that the CM holds power portfolio and this is unbecoming of CM BS Yediyurappa, who calls himself a champion of the cause of common people, to allow his department to extract money.
