With just eight games left in the 2024th edition of IPL, so far only KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) have qualified for the upcoming playoffs.
Amidst the ongoing fight for remaining three positions, let’s take a look at where teams in contention stand.
1.Royal Challengers Bangaluru
With RCB registering five wins back-to-back, RCB now stands at fifth place in the point table.
Currently, they are saddled with a score of 12 points. With a potential to get 14 points after playing with CSK. Thus, standing a chance to qualify for the playoffs.
However, their position is little tough for now, as both SRH and LSG have the potential to advance 16th round and keep RCB out.
2. Chennai Super Kings
Despite registering a thrilling win over RR (Rajasthan Royals), it may have increased their chances to enter playoffs, but the yellow team too isn’t assured of their spot.
In order to secure their place, they have to defeat RCB. But if they win, the other four teams like KKR, RR, SRH, and LSG will still stay above them.
However, due to their strong net-run-rate, CSK might finish at the top 4 if they beat RCB in their last game or if they lose, they have to pray that either SRH or LSG stay below 16 points.
3. Rajasthan Royals
Despite staying at the top of IPL’s point table due to their consistent win, RR still haven’t managed to seal their place in playoffs. Owing to their three consecutive defeats.
Another reason is that four other teams still have the potential to get 16 or more points.
But all-in-all, RR will need one or two win to secure their place in top-two place.
4. Sunrisers Hyderabad
With higher net-run rate of 0.406, Sunrisers need two wins in their upcoming two games to enter qualification race.
But if they loose both of their matches, they too aren’t assured of their playoff’s spot, as teams like CSK and RCB might acquire a good NRR score.
5. Lucknow Super Giants
As LSG is saddled with a weak net-run-rate, they need 16 or more points to enter the playoffs.
But if they still manage to achieve that, they still might fall short, if both SRH and CSK manage to acquire 16 points. Besides, they also enjoy high NRRs.
If RR loses two of their games, it is still slightly impossible for LSG, to catch up with Royals in Net-run-rate.
