The White House announced Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to hold a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as part of the peace process

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump spoke with Putin by phone, securing his consent for a direct Putin-Zelenskyy meeting to advance talks on Ukraine

Leavitt added that a trilateral meeting including Trump could be arranged "if necessary," keeping all options open for advancing negotiations towards ending the war

She confirmed Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff would coordinate efforts with Russia and Ukraine immediately

"The US government and Trump administration are working with both Russia and Ukraine to make this bilateral happen quickly," Leavitt emphasized at the briefing

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, quoted by TASS, said Moscow is open to bilateral and trilateral formats, reiterating Putin's readiness for constructive peace dialogue

The announcement follows Trump's Alaska summit with Putin and Zelenskyy's White House talks with European leaders, marking a potential turning point in peace negotiations
