Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took a veiled swipe at US President Donald Trump over recent tariffs, accusing unnamed powers of attempting to slow India’s rapid economic growth

Speaking at a public event, Singh said, “Some 'boss' is jealous, unable to accept India's rise. They want to disrupt our economic momentum, but they will fail.”

His comments came after Washington imposed a 25% tariff on Indian goods and an extra 25% penalty over New Delhi’s continued import of Russian oil

Trump’s administration also threatened further tariff hikes, calling India’s economy “dead,” sparking strong reactions from New Delhi, which rejected claims it was financing Russia’s war in Ukraine

Singh alleged some countries want Indian products to become costlier than global rivals, so the world stops buying them, hurting India’s exports and manufacturing

Rejecting such attempts, Singh declared, “No power in the world can now stop India from becoming a major global power in the coming years.”

Highlighting India’s defence industry, Singh said exports have crossed ₹24,000 crore, proving resilience despite tariffs. He called it a symbol of the strength of ‘New India.’

He emphasised that India’s defence sector remains unaffected by the dispute and continues to expand its footprint globally through increased innovation and self-reliance in manufacturing
