 The Witch Hunt

Witch hunting is a lookout for the punishment of those who are thought to be performing witchcraft

3077 Women were killed in the name of witchcraft, these are just reported and on record cases

Physical Torture: – Beating – Burning – Stretching – Waterboarding – Racking – Amputation

Psychological Torture: – Sleep deprivation – Isolation – Threat of death

Reasons:  – Lack of education and awareness – Poverty and social inequality – Superstition and fear – Gender discrimination

These practices were based on unfounded accusations and led to the deaths of countless innocent people

In 1857 during the Indian Rebellion, a wave of witch hunts broke out across the region of Chota Nagpur

 Indian Punishment under law:  rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than one year but which may extend to five years or with fine which shall not be less than fifty thousand rupees or with both
