5 Key Details About India's New Zorawar Light Battle Tank

Developed jointly by the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Larsen & Toubro Limited, the Zorawar is a 25-tonne light battle tank that went from development to readiness for trials in just two years

The tank is named after General Zorawar Singh, a 19th-century Dogra military leader known for leading operations in Ladakh and western Tibet

The tank was developed by DRDO to meet Indian Army's needs in eastern Ladakh, addressing Chinese deployments across the Line of Actual Control (LAC)

According to DRDO Chief Dr. Samir Kamath, the Zorawar is slated for induction into the Indian Army by 2027 following ongoing trials in Hazira, Gujarat

Due to its lightweight design, the Zorawar can navigate steep mountain climbs and cross rivers more easily compared to heavier T-72 and T-90 tanks
