During a recent summit in Switzerland, 80 countries collectively emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s “territorial integrity” in any peace deal regarding the ongoing conflict with Russia. Notably, India and several other significant nations did not endorse the joint communique at the Burgenstock resort. This two-day conference, held without Russia’s presence, aimed to outline potential pathways to peace for Ukraine, with leaders from Western countries and others like Ecuador and Somalia sharing their perspectives.

However, analysts express doubts about the summit’s concrete impact on ending the conflict due to Russia’s absence, as it is the primary player in the war. While China, a key ally of Russia, did not attend, Brazil participated as an observer, seeking alternative routes to peace.

Although countries such as Saudi Arabia, India, and others took part in the summit, they refrained from signing the final communique, as confirmed by the Swiss government. India’s Ministry of External Affairs clarified that while India participated in the summit and its related meetings, it did not align with the documents emerging from the event.

The MEA stated that India’s involvement in the summit reflected its consistent approach to resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. It emphasized the need for sincere engagement between conflicting parties for a lasting and peaceful resolution. India affirmed its commitment to remain engaged with stakeholders and contribute earnestly to efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region.
