On Thursday afternoon, Police and authorities said that 53 Rohingya foreign nationals who were been detained in Hira Nagar sub-jail of Kathua district of Jammu, have tested positive for Covid-19.

Recently, jail authorities in entire Jammu and Kashmir have launched a special drive of testing all the jail inmates for corona infection. While speaking to the media, the Chief Medical Officer of Kathua said that in a recent 3-day testing drive they found 53 Rohingyas Covid-19 positive.

“They have been isolated from other jail inmates and doctors are visiting them daily. They have been given corona kits, and their treatment is in process” an official said.

Doctors have said that all the 53 Rohingyas are asymptomatic and would be kept in isolation unless they will not test negative for the infection.

It is in place to mention that during a verification campaign during March 2021, 220 Rohingyas were detained under the foreign nationals act for being in the Jammu region illegally. Rohingyas have reached Jammu a few years back and were living at different places with their families in the dwellings completely unhygienic.
