Twenty-three students of a MCD school in Inderpuri have been hospitalised on Friday as they got ill soon after lunchtime. They were taken to the nearest RML hospital. It looks like students got sick due to a gas leak near the school.
The MCD officials informed us that 23 students of a MCD school in Inderpuri had been hospitalised. Out of 23, 15 students have been taken to RML Hospital, out of which 2 are serious and on oxygen, and 8 students were hospitalised at the Acharya Bhikshuk Hospital.
Officials said all students are fine; they are being attended to by doctors at the two hospitals. Students fell sick, apparently due to a gas leak incident near the school. Doctors from the MCD’s Health Department and officials of the Education Department have been minutely monitoring the situation.
As we spoke to the officials of the Indarpuri police station, according to them, the foul smell of gas is likely to be the reason behind the incident. However, according to them, food poisoning can’t be ruled out.
Police officials said a foul smell entered the school premises just after the children finished their lunch. Cops arrived on the spot and vacated all the classrooms as a precaution. They further added that most students get discharged from the hospital as soon as they get well.
Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi took to twitter to inform, “I inform you all with a great feeling of relief that the two girls who were in RML hospital on oxygen support are fine now. All the children admitted to both hospitals are fine now. We are working to rehabilitate the children in the safe confines of their homes now.
Delhi Crime’s forensic team visited the school. They will submit a report identifying the exact reason.
