Over the India-China border clash as many as 17 opposition parties walked out from the Rajya Sabha as the opposition’s demanded to discuss the India-China border clash.
The clash happened on 9 December between Indian and Chinese troops at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Tawang sector.
The opposition parties who walked out from the House during ‘Zero Hour’ are Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Aam Aadmi Party, MDMK, Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI, Janata Dal-United, DMK, Trinamool Congress, and Telugu Desam Party were among the 17 parties.
Meanwhile, Opposition leaders and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge asked to hold a detailed discussion on the Tawang clash but Deputy Chairman Harivansh did not allow it.
“All the 17 parties are standing behind the soldiers but we are all concerned about the issue which cannot be compromised in terms of the border issue. National security is a major concern,” Harivansh said.
After walking out from Rajya Sabha CPI (M) MP John Brittas said, the government is not ready to hold a debate on the India-China clash don’t know why.
“We asked for a discussion on Chinese aggression on LAC,” JDU said.
Moreover, the government is insulting the house by not discussing the border clash, CPI said.
Earlier in the day Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge convened a meeting with floor leaders of opposition parties ahead of the day’s Parliament Session on Wednesday.
The meeting was held to discuss the December 9 face-off between Indian and Chinese troops at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Tawang sector. At Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s chambers, a meeting was held to strategize the plan on the India-China tussle and other issues in the House.
After the meeting, Congress MP Nasir Hussain said, “We had to walk out on the issue yesterday and today too on the clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers on the LAC. In the next few days, we will keep raising some other issues of public interest.”
However, to combat such aggressions and protect India’s interests along the international border MPs demanded the suspension of ‘Zero Hour’ to have a discussion.
Amid the over 30-month border standoff between India and China on Friday the clash happened near Yangtse along the LAC.
Furthermore, the Indian Army issued a statement and said, “On December 9, PLA troops contacted the LAC in Tawang Sector which was contested by own (Indian) troops in a firm and resolute manner. This face-off led to minor injuries to a few personnel from both sides. Both sides immediately disengaged from the area. As a follow up of the incident, own (Indian) commander in the area held a flag meeting with his counterpart to discuss the issue in accordance with structured mechanisms to restore peace and tranquillity.”
During the clash, Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, Jat regiment, and Sikh Light Infantry were present at the location.
