Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari at will speak in a programme at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar regarding the scrap vehicle policy of the Government of India.

The scrap vehicle policy was announced by the central government last March. On the basis of this policy, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will announce at the Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, in which a road map for transporting more than one and a half crore vehicles to scrap yard in Gujarat will be announced. The roadmap of this policy based on the three ‘R’s’ of Reuse, Reduce and Recycle will be announced. The scrap yard will be built mostly around the automobile hub. Emphasis has been placed on the use of technology to dismantle vehicles as well as reuse vehicle parts.

Pollution is on the rise in the state due to old vehicles. The National Green Tribunal has repeatedly called on the Government of India and the state government to control the amount of this pollution, including a ban on 15-year-old vehicles. An important decision was taken by the central government during the last budget session that the 15 years old vehicles will have to be taken to the scrap yard and scrapped.

Since the Central Government and the State Government do not have any important system and policy for the disposal of these vehicles, the vehicles keep running on the road in any condition. As a result, vehicle accident pollution as well as scrap vehicle disposal issues have become a headache. The Government of India is ready to open up new industries for scrap of 15-year-old vehicles in the country, including Gujarat, as part of which such wreckage will be set up around the automobile hub in Gujarat.
