World Lion Day is celebrated annually to increase public awareness of their conservation and protection. Big Cat Rescue, the largest recognised sanctuary for big cats in the world, founded this celebration of the natural kingdom’s most stunning and terrifying beast. On August 10th, people from all around the world join together to honour the magnificent lion in as many different ways as they can.

PM Modi has extended his wish on World Lion Day to the countrymen.

The lion, also known as Panthera leo, is adored as the “king of the jungle” throughout the world, but they are threatened in the wild by a variety of factors, including habitat loss from deforestation or risks of poaching, confrontations with people, climate change, and a decline in their natural prey. Because of this, World Lion Day is celebrated annually to increase public awareness of their conservation and protection. The aim of the day is to recognise these majestic big cats and their significance for ecosystems and civilizations all over the world, as well as to raise awareness of the issues that lions face globally and to support conservation activities.

As lions are considered a “highly susceptible” species by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, which means that their population should and may be increased. According to studies, there are currently between 30,000 and 100,000 lions on Earth. They might end up on the endangered species list with other species that are most in danger of becoming extinct if there isn’t considerable intervention.
