A health department official said on Monday that at least 130 children were admitted to Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital with high fever and dysentery. Two of them were later shifted to North Bengal Medical College as their condition worsened, he added.

The incident comes to light amid warning by experts that the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic might pose a greater risk to children.

“We are keeping a tab on the situation and trying to develop the hospital’s infrastructure so that no one is denied admission. The situation is quite worrisome,” the official was quoted saying by PTI.

Meanwhile, a child died of fever at Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital. Despite the hospital authorities’ claim, the family brought the child to the hospital’s children’s department in critical condition yesterday. The baby died while undergoing treatment on Tuesday morning. The house is in Mekhliganj of Kochbihar. The body of the dead child was handed over to the family on behalf of the hospital. Although the hospital authorities claimed, the physical condition of the dead child was bad. He was suffering from fever and pneumonia.

It has been a week, but the health department in Jalpaiguri still does not have much help with the unknown and ‘unusual’ fever of children. Hundreds sick.

Despite this, no special team was sent to the district to investigate. Some government doctors have started questioning the stand of the authorities.

Sources said that Sushant Roy, who has been hired for pediatric disease management, is actually an ophthalmologist. Physicians are practically surprised by this.

Meanwhile, what is causing this fever, how it is spreading, nothing has been established so far.

It was learned on Tuesday that samples were being brought to the School of Tropical Medicine. If a new strain of the virus or species emerges, it needs the help of the central government to tackle the issue.
