Actor and MP Hema Malini, and Lyricist and CBFC Chairperson are to be conferred with the Film Personality of the Year 2021 award. The announcement was made by Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur and the award will be conferred to them at the International Film Festival of India in Goa. Thakur while making the announcement said “ Their contributions to the field of Indian cinema spreads over decades and their body of work has enthralled audiences across generations. They are Indian cinematic icons who are admired and respected the world over. ”
Malini made her acting debut in 1963 with a Tamil film ‘Idhu Sathiyam’ and her Hindi film debut in 1968 in ‘Sapno Ka Saudagar’. Since then she has acted in over 150 hit films like ‘Sholay,’ ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’, ‘Satte Pe Satta’, ‘Baghban’ amongst many others.
Joshi entered Indian cinema from a career in advertising with the 2001 film ‘Lajja’ directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and since then has been part of highly successful films like ‘Taare Zameen Par’, ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ and many more. He has won the National Film Award, multiple Filmfare awards and was conferred with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2015.
