A day after the Punjab Assembly passed the state›s agriculture bills as well as a resolution against the Central Agricultural Laws, various farmers’ organisations protesting in the state, on Wednesday, decided to relax the “rail rook” movement.

In a meeting of 30 farmer bodies held at Kisan Bhavan, it was decided that the movement of goods trains would not be blocked till 5 November and the next decision in this regard would be taken in the meeting which will take place on 4 November.

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has welcomed it. Thanking the farmer unions for heeding his appeal, the CM said that the farmers had shown their love and concern for the people of Punjab with this move, as it would allow the state to get its much-needed coal and urea supplies. The farmers had not let their state down, and he would personally ensure that his government never lets them down, said Captain Amarinder.

However, the farmers› organisations also said that their protests would continue until the Central government acceded to all their demands. Protests at toll plazas and railway stations as well as the blockade of passenger trains and the siege of BJP leaders would continue as before, they said.

Farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal said that the session of the Punjab Assembly, the resolution and bills passed there and all the parties except the BJP going to meet the Governor together on this issue were the result of the agitation of the Kisan unions. He called it their achievement and said that their fight against the Centre would continue until the fulfillment of demands.
