Punjab Government had hired an Isreal based company called Mekorot Water company to curb the water menace in the state of Punjab. Punjab Governmentt is recommended with many points by a committee comprising Dual Flushing and sensor/self-closing taps for all new institutional/residential buildings except for economically weaker sections now along with regular water testing.
This is after the continuous depletion of the groundwater table in Punjab. On 24h March 2021, the Punjab Assembly formed a Committee of the Members of the House to go into reasons and causes of the depletion of the water table and to suggest measures to arrest the same.
This Committee under Rana Gurjit Singh Chairmanship and colleagues Harpartap Singh Ajnala, Gurpartap Singh Wadala, Hardev Singh Laddi, Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal, and Gurmeet Singh Haher, all MLAs were nominated as Members.
Assisted by the officials and the experts including the representative of the Mekorot Company of Israel prepared an exhaustive report which was presented to the Speaker today since the House is not in session.
