By Francis Allan L. Angelo
SIX villages in Iloilo City are under close monitoring by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for possible encroachment of narco-politics during the October 25 barangay elections.
Paul Ledesma, PDEA-6 regional head, said their focus is on the usual suspected drug havens in the city – Malipayon, Tanza-Esperanza and Veterans’ Village in Iloilo City proper; Bakhaw, Mandurriao; Desamparados, Jaro and Boulevard, Molo.
Ledesma said drug personalities present in the said barangays could influence the election by bankrolling their own candidates.

Housing project
contractor missing
By Francis Allan L. Angelo
THE mysterious disappearance of the contractor of the Iloilo City housing project will not stop the city from dissolving its contract with the firm.
Iloilo City Councilor Perla S. Zulueta said the absence of Ace Builders Enterprise (ABE) would mean nobody will oppose the move of the City government to rescind the contract and take over the project site in Pavia town.
“Mayad gani. Kundi waay ti ma oppose kon i-rescind ang contract (That’s good. Nobody will oppose if the contract is rescinded,” Zulueta said.
