Trompeta pitches for regionwide
celebration of Chinese New Year
THE celebration of the Chinese New Year is an occasion that is significant not only for the tourism industry but also to recognize the cultural and historical ties of Filipinos with their Chinese brothers and sisters.
This was the view of tourism regional director Edwin Trompeta as he recommended that the occasion, if celebrated by the whole Western Visayas, can be used to encourage the participation of Chinese communities abroad.
“If only we can make this celebration not only a local one but something like a family celebration where families from somewhere else get to visit Iloilo, Bacolod, and Cebu these are significant developments in tourism,” he said.
The celebration in Western Visayas kicked off in Iloilo eight years ago and the cities of Bacolod and Baguio followed.
Trompeta looks forward to Capiz and Kalibo staging similar celebrations.
He cited that at present, there are already direct flights to Kalibo
from Shanghai and Guangzhou China by the Philippine Airlines (PAL).
“Here is a very big market that can easily be tapped by our country. We
are not only talking of the economic advancement and development China
has attained but we are also talking here of relationships not only in
China but in the Philippines,” he added. (PNA)
