4,000 seedlings to be planted
in ‘Pyesta sang Kakahuyan’

AROUND 4,000 seedlings of narra, jackfruit and other fruit trees will be planted this Saturday, September 11, at the watershed in Maasin, Iloilo as part of this year’s “Pyesta sang Kakahuyan” organized by the Iloilo provincial government.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) chief Soledad Sucaldito said aside from provincial government employees, various non-government organizations, civic clubs, private companies and academic institutions also confirmed participation in the tree-planting activity.

PRESIDENT Benigno Simeon Aquino III will have to choose from four nominees, whose names will be submitted to his office, to sit as chair and co-chair of the Regional Development Council (RDC) in Western Visayas.

During RDC’s organizational meeting held here recently, the government sector composed of heads of regional line agencies and elected officials from the province and cities elected Governors Felipe Hilan Nava of Guimaras and Victor Tanco from Capiz as nominees.

face malversation raps

A BARANGAY captain and two other officials are currently facing charges of malversation and mismanagement of public funds filed by fellow barangay officials over the alleged anomalous release of checks worth more than P700,000.

Barangay captain Josefina Hilado of Nonoy, Iloilo City proper, treasurer Marcelino Espeso Jr and kagawad Wenefredo Tyones were called by city interior and local government officer John Ace Azarcon for an initial verification of charges submitted to City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog recently.

Copies of the charges were also sent to the Ombudsman Visayas and Liga ng mga Barangay federation president Irene Ong.

Tourism office takes charge
of Christmas
Feria at Jaro

IT’S all settled, no barangay will conduct the annual Christmas Feria at the Jaro Plaza in Jaro district except the city tourism office.

City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog issued an executive order recently designating the tourism office headed by Benito Jimena to lead the Christmas Feria celebration at Jaro Plaza and that no barangay can lay claim for the Christmas activities at the plaza except the city government.
