SIX villages in Iloilo City are under close monitoring by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for possible encroachment of narco-politics during the October 25 barangay elections.

Housing project
contractor missing

By Francis Allan L. Angelo

THE mysterious disappearance of the contractor of the Iloilo City housing project will not stop the city from dissolving its contract with the firm.

Iloilo City Councilor Perla S. Zulueta said the absence of Ace Builders Enterprise (ABE) would mean nobody will oppose the move of the City government to rescind the contract and take over the project site in Pavia town.

“Mayad gani. Kundi waay ti ma oppose kon i-rescind ang contract (That’s good. Nobody will oppose if the contract is rescinded,” Zulueta said.

City crime rate drops

By Francis Allan L. Angelo

CRIME rate in Iloilo City decreased by more than 25% in the last two months after the establishment of a unified patrol unit under the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).

Data from the ICPO showed that crimes went down from 538 cases in July 2010 to 401 in August 2010, a decrease of 137 cases or 25.56%.

The ICPO noted the decrease after S/Supt. Dennis L. Basngi, ICPO director, formed the Mobile Patrol Group (MPG) in late July.

Under the MPG set up, mobile patrols in six district police stations were pooled and mobilized to increase police visibility and hasten response to incidents. The ICPO also attributed the decrease in crimes to the fixed deployment of foot patrol at strategic and crime-prone areas in the city.
